A WIDE range of comedy, drama, music and stand up will be coming to the Royal and Derngate in Northampton in the New Year.
One of the shows will be the West End hit The 39 Steps which opens at the theatre’s Royal Stage on February 25 running to March 2.
Based on Alfred Hitchcock’s classic spy thriller, it follows the adventure of handsome hero Richard Hannay complete with stiff-upperlip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache, as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women.
The 39 Steps features four actors playing 139 different roles in 100 minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action.
The show has won an Olivier award and was described by Stephen Fry as “theatrical gold”.
Other highlights include a series of comedy plays bought to the stage by the Royal and Derngate’s in-house production team, the 60th anniversary tour of The Mousetrap comes to Northampton.
A stage adaptation of the classic BBC sitcom Birds of a Feather will also be played at the theatre and its original stars Lesley Joseph, Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke will appear in the show. Popular musicals Joseph, High Society and Soul Sister can also be seen.
