CHILDREN in Daventry whose parents are going through a separation have a safe and neutral environment in which to meet them thanks to a group of volunteers and community donations.

Children Come First is a child contact centre and registered charity, working with families undergoing the stress of separation to ensure children always have a friendly and supervised environment in which to meet with estranged parents.

Parents are able to drop their children off at the Abbey Centre in Daventry to meet up with other parents, grandparents, siblings, and occasionally other relatives with the option of avoiding contact with those relatives if required.

CCF trustee, John Brewer, said: “We have been running almost 18 years and in that time we have seen family use the service to get together for the sake of the children.

“We are not here to right the wrongs but to bring families back together in a safe environment and I cannot tell you how rewarding that can be.”

As a charity CCF require donations to provide its services. Having previously been the recipient of £2,000 of county councillor Chris Long’s empowerment fund the charity is set to receive a further £1,000 in 2013.

Cllr Long said: “CCF is a little known but highly valued organisation.

“If I am able to assist in some small way to help sustain this group then I am only too pleased to be able to do so.”

CCF meet on the first and third Saturdays in each month. Self referrals can be accepted as well as families referred through a court or other official body.
