The future of a successful village fete has been thrown into doubt after no-one put themselves forward to be the new chairman or secretary.
Weedon Village Fete draws in crowds in the thousands every year, and raises between £4,000 and £5,000, which is distributed to local causes.
However, without a chairman to lead the organisation of the event, and a secretary to help, this year’s and future fetes are in jeopardy.
Tony Wincott, who has been involved in the fete, said: “The village fete was resurrected a few years ago and has gone from strength to strength. Each year they’ve got more people coming along and raised more money.
“The current chairman and secretary have said that they will be stepping down, but despite asking for people, no one has put their head over the parapet.
“The chairman’s role is not a solitary one. They have the support of the rest of the committee, and the other groups involved in organising the event.
“The chairman’s role is to co-ordinate all that, and to make sure someone is doing the jobs that need to be done.”
The fete’s AGM will be at 7.30pm on April 8 in the Scout Hut, New Street. Anyone interested can contact Sue Halkett at weedonbecpc@btinternet.com or 01327 341057.
