A BAND fronted by a former pupil at William Parker School in Daventry will be performing a gig later this month.

The South, formerly known as The Beautiful South, have reformed with Alison Wheeler as the female lead singer. The group is about to kick off one of their biggest tours running from February 11 to March 8. and will be appearing at The Assembly in Leamington Spa on Thursday, February 23.

Alison told the Daventry Express: “The Assembly is a great venue, there are fantastic behind the scenes facilities and there is a wonderful atmosphere.

“It will be a very special gig for me because it is the nearest to the town which I grew up in so there will be a lot of family and friends who will come to see us perform.

“The fans always help make the gigs so special.”

It has been a busy period for the band who have been working hard to move forward.

Alison added: “There are a lot of people who want to hear the old classics. But we have decided that melodic pop with interesting lyrics is the way we should go.”

The band has also been looking for new ways to move forward and have taken to the internet with the new album where they are releasing one track a month for free.

Alison said: “In a way, we have been using the new album and the website to market the tour that we are doing.

“The new material has gone down really well with the fans and a lot of them have said they would like to own a CD, a hard copy of the songs.

“It is nice in a way that the people who follow us are still willing to pay for something even though we are releasing it for free. If demand allows it, then we will probably release the album with a few extra tracks and get that out there.”

And she is hoping for a big turnout to the concert in Leamington Spa.

Alison said: “If you are inquisitive about the group, you will be surprised when you find you know many of the songs already. It will be a really special night.”

Tickets cost £22.50 and doors open at 7pm. Visit www.leamingtonassembly.com for further details about the gig.
