A 49-year-old narrow boater found dead in a canal in August last year, died of natural causes of cardiac origin an inquest heard yesterday (Wednesday).

Christoper Allen, formerly of Itsus 2 Narrow Boat, Skew Bridge, Yelvertoft, was found by police after neighbours informed them Mr Allen had been missing for several days.

PC Quinn, of Northamptonshire Police in Daventry, described seeing clothing floating inbetween Mr Allen’s narrow boat and the canal bank on his search for his whereabouts. Mr Allen’s body was later discovered. It is believed he had died several days earlier. Carrying out a post mortum, Dr David Fattah said there was no evidence that Mr Allen drowned but gave the cause of death as ischaemic heart disease.

Mr Allen’s mother, Irene, said: “Chris had lots of different hobbies, he was a keen hockey player, gymnast and morris dancer. He mixed well with others and had a large group of friends.”

Chris had no children but was married for five years and divorced in 1993. Mrs Allen added: “Chris was a much loved son and brother and we miss him very much.”
