An academy in Daventry has been judged as needing improvement following the latest report released by
Government inspectors.

The Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village (DSLV) made up of the nursery, infant, junior and secondary school on the town’s Southbrook estate was judged as requiring improvement by Ofsted.

It is the first time the academy has been judged by the government inspector.

The principal of the academy, David Howell, said: “We have been going for a year and I think it is early days for us to have been judged.

“I think it shows there has been clear improvement and the DSLV is going in the right direction but there is still work to do.”

The school was judged as requiring improvement in the areas of pupils’ achievement and the quality of teaching but good in the field of behaviour and safety of pupils and the leadership and management of the school.

Mr Howell added: “We are going to carry on as we have been doing and make sure the achievement is high right throughout the academy and the young people here get the best possible experiences.

“There was no data available to Ofsted when we were inspected. It is important for us that we were given a good for leadership and management.”

Following recent changes to inspections carried out by Ofsted, the ‘requires improvement’ grade will see the academy revisited within the next two years.

The Ofsted report said: “This is an improving school. The principal, senior leaders and governors have made good progress in several areas.

“There are effective procedures in place to improve the quality of teaching which has strengthened this year. As a result, students’ achievement is improving.

“There is not enough teaching that is good.

“Where it requires improvement, teaching often does not meet the needs of some students and too few opportunities are provided for students to work independently.

“The sixth form requires improvement because the quality of lessons there is not monitored closely enough.”
