VILLAGERS fear plans for 239 new homes in Long Buckby will lead to an increase in traffic problems.
An application to put 132 homes on land to the west of Station Road between the train line and Rockhill Road will be decided on by Daventry District Council on Wednesday night next week.
And another application for 107 homes on land opposite has just been submitted.
Despite objections from Long Buckby Parish Council and residents, planning officers have recommended councillors approve the first scheme.
Steve Osborne, who sits on DDC’s planning committee, said: “Obviously I can’t prejudge what we’ll discuss or decide at the meeting. I know officers have recommended it for approval.
“There have been 90 objections to that plan. I think there will be a few people there from Long Buckby and I imagine there will be a full debate on the issue.”
The second application for land on the opposite (eastern) side of Station Road would see 107 homes built on land between the train station and Watson Road.
Alan Webb, vice-chairman of Long Buckby Parish Council, said: “We had a public meeting to hear the community’s views on the plan for the western site and it was pretty much unanimous that we don’t want it.
“A major concern is the increase in traffic – we’re talking about 130-odd homes on the west, and potentially more on the eastern side.
“Also the western site includes extra car parking for the station. Personally I think it would be better if they were offering something that would benefit the community, rather than those who drive here to use the station.
“It will also lead to drivers going from one side of the road to the other looking for a space, and pedestrians crossing as well.”
