Theatre review: Long Day’s Journey Into Night at Milton Keynes Theatre

DAVID Suchet puts away his Belgian accent and swaps it for the USA in this epic.

Long Day’s Journey Into Night stars Suchet as the head of the Tyrone family who all go through the demons of their past throughout the show and reveal their struggles for survival.

This is not a light hearted affair and Suchet is far removed from the cosy Sunday night affair of Poirot.

There are various struggles depicted in this show including the ones with drink, drugs and death. It is quite an intense show and this combined with the three hour running time makes it a difficult play to watch at times.

However there are rewarding performances. Suchet shnes in the leading role as athe roguish head of the family. Laurie Metcalf, Trevor White and Kyle Soller also play their roles and there is some wonderful lines in the show.

These moments and performances help to illuminate a very dark show. I only wished there was a few more moments in the show.

Long Days Journey Into Night will be performed at Milton Keynes Theatre until Saturday. Call the box office on 0844 871 7652 or visitwww.atgtickets.co.uk/milton-keynes-theatre for tickets.
