‘Contradiction’ on A45 traffic

TRAFFIC at the Weedon crossroads is judged to be ‘not a problem’ for a new Tesco, despite warnings from the same council that the A45 will soon be running 25 per cent slower.

The supermarket chain wants to build an Express store on the junction with flats above on the site of the current Globe Hotel.

On Wednesday next week the plans will be discussed by Daventry District Council.

The plans have been recommended for approval after the county highways department once again said there was no problem with traffic. This is despite the same department saying last week that journeys from Daventry to Northampton will take 25 per cent longer by 2021 and congestion on roads including the A45 at Weedon could “seriously restrict” economic growth and prosperity.

Phil Watts who runs Grand Union Designs next to the site said: “This is the junction of two major roads. It’s busy at the best of times – when there’s a problem on the M1 you can get queues for miles.

“Tesco seems to be suggesting the car park exit will be on the A45 near the lights – how will cars pull out when there’s always traffic there? And then there’s the deliveries too.” n Email your views to editorial @daventryexpress.co.uk
