A NEW art competition in aid of a local charity has been launched by the Evergreen Art Cafe in Daventry.

The Sheaf Street venue is hosting the competition to coincide with the Easter holidays. Money raised will go to Pete Spencer’s Helping Hands Memorial Fund.

Children can either colour in an outline of a Paul Horton painting or can draw one of the iconic Mr Men and Little Miss characters as drawn by artist Paul Oz.

The cafe’s owner Simon Williams said: “If a child goes into a gallery, they are normally told that they can not touch things and to be quiet.

“We want to try and get children interested in coming into galleries and taking the stuffiness out of visiting them.”

The cafe has team up with fine art publishers, Washington Green and Art You Grew Up With to launch the competition. It is split into two different categories – four to seven and eight to 12 – and entry sheets can be picked up by visiting the cafe or downloaded from its website.

All entries will be on display in the gallery for a week and both Mr Horton and Mr Oz will judge the winning entries.

Each winner will receive a signed limited edition by one of the judges and their winning entry will also be signed by them.

Completed entries must be submitted to Evergreen by 5pm on Monday April 16.

Mr Williams said: “Get the children painting this Easter and you might find you’ve got the next Vincent Van Gogh in the family.”

Proud parents can purchase their child’s masterpiece after the winners are chosen by making a donation of their choice to the Daventry based charity which provides specialist equipment and special days out for children with disabilities or a serious illness.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the website www.evergreenart.co.uk
