POLICE officers from Northamptonshire are likely to be sent to London and potentially to Leicestershire for this summer’s Olympics, the force has said.
Chief Constable Adrian Lee said Northamptonshire Police was gearing up for a busy year, with the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Games, as well as annual events at Silverstone.
The force will then welcome in the new Police and Crime Commissioner following elections in November, in what will be one of the biggest shake-ups of policing for a generation.
However, Mr Lee said the historic occasions should not have an impact on the level of policing residents receive in the county.
Mr Lee said: “We will be sending resources to other parts of the country for the Olympics, probably to London and to Leicestershire. We have the torches coming into the county and there will be cultural events taking place as well.
“We have put money aside so it will have no impact on local policing.
“I think there is a good history of Silverstone being policed well and now we have added the Moto GP. We want to create a safe environment for people to enjoy the Olympics and the Jubilee and our role is to create that safe environment.”
