VILLAGES in the Daventry district have once again been snubbed after the latest areas set to receive superfast broadband were revealed.

Last month it was confirmed that no more exchanges in the district will be upgraded this year, leaving Daventry and Chapel Brampton as the only ones with any superfast access.

But last week BT confirmed superfast broadband will be available for the first time in Corby with around 15,000 homes and businesses set to be upgraded.

The development will take the number of premises in Northamp-

tonshire with access to the high-speed technology to around 88,000.

BT has also announced plans for its fibre-optic network to pass another 82,000 premises in the county later this year,.

The Daventry Express is campaigning for us to get a fair share of any investment so the region can be propelled into the 21st century.

Daventry District Council’s communication portfolio holder Colin Poole said: “Rural areas should be a priority.

“It’s outrageous that we are 80-miles from the centre of London, but in relative terms we are in the stone age when it comes to communication.

“We are trying to promote a rural economy in the Daventry district but currently aren’t being given the tools to do it.

“Private and public bodies need to start getting together for the benefit of all.

“People want us to be a green economy but out in the villages the internet speeds are so low that people are unable to work from home.”
