A HOST of community groups and sports clubs are set to reap the benefits after getting a cash injection.
Grants of more than £40,000 have been made in the first allocation of this year’s Daventry District Council capital grants funding.
Daventry Area Community Transport (DACT) will get £10,000 to help fund a new mini coach to enable them to continue to provide public transport to people who don’t have access to it.
Crick Athletic Football Club has been awarded £15,000 to help build a senior pitch, two junior pitches, temporary changing rooms and a car park and to improve the drainage, access and fencing.
The club helps young football players to develop their skills to carry on to play at senior level but their current facilities consist of two pitches of poor quality and drainage, which results in many games being cancelled.
The Daventry Amateur Athletic Club at Stefen Hill Sports Ground will receive £8,171 too as part of planned improvements to bring their facilities up to the UK Athletic standard over the next three years.
The Rural Enterprise Action Programme in Staverton will get £6,800 to go towards improvements to their heating facilities, while the Everdon Village Hall Management Committee has been awarded £770 to clear some derelict land at the rear of the hall and to establish a hard standing base for a storage building and disabled car parking.
Simon Bovey, deputy chief executive at Daventry District Council, said: “We are very pleased to be able to help these organisations in their endeavours to provide better facilities in local communities.
“Our capital grant funding is an excellent way for groups to make improvements to their equipment or buildings and they are always welcome to get in touch with us and see how we may be able to help.”
Voluntary and community organisations can apply to DDC for capital grant funding of up to £15,000 for up to 50 per cent of the total project cost for things like equipment and refurbishment costs.
The total budget for capital grants for 2012/13 is £60,000. Any organisations that would like to apply for the funding or want more information can contact Katie Arnold at Daventry District Council on 01327 871100.
