A FORMER soldier preparing to cycle across Mexico to raise money for Help for Heroes will take part in a charity sale next weekend.

Paul Hooper, from Flore, will travel from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean in November this year.

He is aiming to raise £5,000 and has volunteered to sell Help for Heroes merchandise and collect donations at the new Asda store at Far Cotton in Northampton on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13.

Mr Hooper, 47, said: “I am an ex-serviceman myself so this is a charity that means a lot to me.

“I have taken part in various physical events over the years to raise money for Help for Heroes, most of which have involved getting wet and muddy.

“But cycling across Mexico in just eight days with a band of Help for Heroes supporters will be my biggest challenge to date.”
