PLACES for primary schools across the county were allocated yesterday (Wednesday).

Northamptonshire County Council said 8,828 places were allocated for those starting school in September – an increase of 416 applications on last year.

Councillor Andrew Grant, cabinet member for children, learning and skills, said: “We work hard to ensure pupils are allocated to one of their preferred schools wherever possible.

“Although we’re seeing quite an increase in the numbers of children starting school this year, I’m pleased that we have been able to maintain the percentage of families offered one of their three preferences. We’ve taken a number of steps to make sure that we have enough capacity to meet the rising numbers of schoolchildren in the county.”
