WOODFORD United’s inability to stage the end-of-season clash with Slough Town because of a waterlogged Byfield Road pitch has resulted in an inevitable delay to The Rebels play-offs semi-final against their landlords Beaconsfield SYCOB.
Provided the re-arranged league fixture went ahead on Tuesday, Slough and Beaconsfield will meet tonight (Thursday) for the right to take on Bedworth United or Uxbridge in the play-offs final in four days’ time.
The largely meaningless matches involving Barton Rovers, Chertsey, North Greenford and Aylesbury also had to be postponed at the weekend when Northwood missed a golden opportunity to overtake Beaconsfield on losing 5-2 to Leighton Town.
Champions St Neots rounded things off in style with a 2-0 win at Ashford after second-half goals from Ben Mackey (penalty) and Lewis Hilliard. Meanwhile on-loan Leamington striker Luke Corbett was among the scorers as third-placed Bedworth beat Biggleswade by a 3-1 margin.
Uxbridge too made the play-offs with Michael Murray’s hat-trick, including two penalties, only for Tommy Brewer to be sent-off near the end of a resounding 5-1 win over Bedfont.
Northwood’s own promotion hopes were ended with a shock 5-2 defeat at Leighton Buzzard at a time when fifth-place rivals Beaconsfield also lost at home to revitalised Daventry Town. Leighton raced into a three-goal lead inside 10 minutes.
Rugby Town’s poor end to the campaign was only partially assauged by a lone-goal success over bottom-of-the-table Marlow whose goalkeeper Charlie Fanner saved Tyrone Fagan’s 33rd minute spot-kick only to be beaten by the rebound.
The Chalfont-Fleet and Burnham-AFC Hayes games both ended in score draws but matches at Woodford, North Greenford and Barton-le-Clay all had to be postponed because of waterlogged pitches.
