DAVENTRY’S William Parker School was celebrating this week after successes in the world of sport.
George Calvey has been selected to play England U15 Basketball in the Copenhagen Tournament in June.
This is an immense achievement for George who only started playing competitive basketball at the beginning of Year 10.
He has subsequently made his way through a rigorous selection process, including two England Camps before being selected to represent his country.
Congratulations were expressed to Kyle Cherry who will be representing England Badminton in the Sainsbury’s 2012 Schools’ Games at the Olympic Park from May 9-12.
The School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes, developed to build on the excitement and inspirations of the 2012 Games.
Kyle will not only have the privilege of playing in one of the Olympic venues, but he will also have the honour of staying in the athletes’ village.
Congratulations also to Niklas Aarre whose massive throw of 47.20m at the Rugby Spring Medal Open Meeting has put him at number one in the country in the U17 discus.
Niklas has represented the school twice at the English Schools’ Athletics Finals and is looking in good shape for a win in the U17 Discus at this year’s finals in Gateshead.
For the long term, the athlete has his sights set on the 2020 Olympics.
