Residents are being encouraged to give their views to help shape plans for the new Daventry University Technical College (UTC).

Proposed designs of the Daventry UTC, to be built on land off Ashby Road, Daventry will be on display during a public consultation event at Daventry Leisure Centre in Lodge Road on Tuesday, May 22, from 6pm to 8pm.

During the evening there will also be the chance to meet members of the UTC’s design team and representatives from the sponsor organisations will be on hand to answer questions.

Residents can comment on the plans by filling in a questionnaire and their feedback will be considered before a planning application is submitted early this summer.

The Daventry UTC, which is being procured by Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) on behalf of the UTC trustees, is scheduled to open by 2013 and will provide education in sustainable and related new technologies for up to 600 students between the ages of 14 and 19.

Students will have the opportunity to work with the sponsors, Moulton College and The University of Northampton, as well as gain valuable work experience with local and national industry provided by employers such as Cummins Ltd, Cosworth, DHL, ProLogis, Hi-Force and SDC.

Daventry District Council Chief Executive Ian Vincent said: “This consultation offers a valuable opportunity to gather local people’s views on the designs that have been developed for the new UTC.

“The involvement of residents is an important part of the process and their comments will help us inform the design and layout of the building to ensure it addresses the needs of the local community.”

Chris Moody, chair of UTC Board of Governors said: “It is essential that the UTC campus helps us to provide an exceptional education experience for our future students. In order to achieve this, the governors are keen to take into account the views of as wide a range of local people as possible before finalising the detailed design.”

Terry Neville, Chief Operating Officer at The University of Northampton said: “The University of Northampton is proud to be a co-sponsor of Daventry’s new University Technical College and welcomes the input of local residents and businesses, recognising that these are key to delivering the right facility for the area.”

Councillor Andrew Grant, NCC cabinet member for children, learning and skills, said: “This the perfect opportunity for Daventry residents to speak to all the key players involved in bringing this project to fruition. The proposed designs for the UTC will be available so not only will residents be able to get an early indication of how it could look, their comments will help to shape the final designs.”
