REPORTS of anti-social behaviour in Daventry district and South Northants have fallen over the past year.

Figures in the annual report of the Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Community Safety Partnership show anti-social behaviour fell by 23 per cent in 2011/12 compared to the previous year.

The fall mirrors Northamptonshire Police’s public confidence figure for anti-social behaviour, which shows the percentage of people who feel that young people hanging around was an issue is now at 10.2 per cent in the Daventry area.

Ian Vincent, chairman of the partnership, said: “Anti-social behaviour has an impact on most people and was the biggest issue reported by respondents in the recent the Have Your Say Days, when we asked residents what their main concerns were.

“As a result this has been our main area of focus over the past 12 months so we are very pleased with these very positive results. There are always areas that we can improve however, and all our partners will be continuing to work hard over the forthcoming year to address residents’ concerns in the community.”

Sector commander for Daventry, Inspector Paul Valentine said: “We work closely with our partners in the Daventry and South Northants areas and community safety partnership and have introduced many initiatives over the past year. We meet regularly through the joint action Groups to deter and tackle anti-social behaviour by tackling causes as well as effects.

“I am really pleased with the reduction of 23 per cent in reported anti-social behaviour and a reduction in the number of people who say it is a concern for them. However, we will not become complacent and will continue our focus – we are fortunate across the areas that we have a very strong partnership approach to tackling issues. There is more good work to be done and I look forward to working with our partners this year to reduce anti-social behaviour even further!”

The Community Safety Partnership brings together partners including Daventry District Council, South Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Police and the Police Authority, Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service, NHS Northamptonshire and the Probation Service to reduce crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour within the community.
